One day starts tomorrow...

Tomorrow is my first day teaching. I'm ready. Or I'm at least as ready as I'm going to be. I'm not sure that I'm going to get much sleep tonight. We watched The Ron Clark story on tv tonight. A little amazing teacher inspiration to get us started. We gathered that getting phenomena is a sign of a good teacher (Ms. Lora, Mr. Clark... ).

I'm not sure how things are going to go with my department head and I don't know if my air will work tomorrow, but I do know that I have set very specific, very big goals for my students. Starting tomorrow my students have 190 days to improve their writing skills and pass their TAKS tests. Starting tomorrow, my students have one school year to raise their reading levels two grade levels and move their writing to a 3 on the 8th grade rubric. Starting tomorrow we have a lot to cover.

"In the name of the best within you, do not sacrifice this world to those who are its worst. In the name of the values that keep you alive, do not let your vision of man be distorted by the ugly, the cowardly, the mindless in those who have never achieved his title. Do not lose your knowledge that man's proper estate is an upright posture, an intransigent mind and a step that travels unlimited roads. Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it's yours." -Atlas Shrugged
