Charters, sex and education

Here's some interesting stuff to ponder.

Given my newfound thoughts on running a girls school some day, I find this article interesting (if not a little off topic with the brain activity stuff). How exactly is creating an all girls leadership school anti-feminist? Someone tell me.

This would also be pretty freaking sweet. I think that one of the downfalls of the education profession is that we don't take ourselves seriously. That old adage "those who can't do, teach"? That's lame. Teaching is hard. Real hard. Why do we think that it's cool to say "well, if I don't have the guts to do it in the real world, or if I want a long summer vacation or if I'm just not sure what to do then teaching must be the option"? It's not. If you look at teacher education systems in other countries you'll see a high level of competition. It's as if they're saying that education is so vitally important to the well-being of the country that they will accept nothing but the best. Wild thought. I think you would attract more high quality teachers if you paid like you meant it and truly expected the best. If I am intellectually stimulated and make good money and feel respected in my profession, why would I leave?

Hey Sam! Great to see you back in the blogosphere! I'm thankful for my RSS feed aggregator (aka Google Reader) which gave me a happy surprise from you today.

Pumped that you landed a job you're so excited about. Nothing better than a career you can love. I may never use my teaching certification.
